2010 "Keepin It Warm" Coat Drive

With winter upon us, the Keller Williams St Andrews Drive office will be collecting both new and gently used coats for adults and children until Friday, January 15, 2010. KW Murfreesboro Cares, the charity branch of Keller Williams, recognized that there is a need for warm winter coats in our community. The charity, this year headed by Joi Sherrill, has organized a place where coats can be dropped off to share with fellow community members in need. It is looking for gently worn and in good condition or new coats for people of all ages and sizes. U-Haul has partnered with us and donated a trailer and lock where donated coats can be left. The truck is located at 450 St Andrews Dr. To get the lock code you may call your favorite Keller Williams agent, the KW Cares message box at 895-8000 ext 4233, during office hours at the main office at Keller Williams Realty.

Our coat drive generated donations of about 175 coats - WOW! There were 45 men's coats picked up by the Room In The Inn and made available to the homeless men. Scott Layden, Room In The Inn Volunteer, said there was a gentleman who came in every Friday night and never had a coat. They had never had one for him because he is a 2XL. Scott discovered when he got the coats that there was a coat of this size and he put it away for that individual. When he came to the Inn that next Friday, Scott said he "softened" when he received it and was so grateful! Thank you so much to Mickie Howell for making that connection!

There were several children's coats taken to the students at Bradley School by Myra Hooper's daughter who is a teacher. She said some of her students come in without socks and without coats even in the coldest weather. There were 20 that will be taken to The Appalachian Mission in the mountains of East Tennessee by Jerry and Patty Austin. There were 98 donated to the West Main Mission which was also delighted to receive them. They provide clothing for women and children from the Domestic Violence Shelter in Rutherford and Wilson Counties along with participating in relief efforts for any other need that asks them.

Thank you so much Mickie Howell for this wonderful idea and thank you to all of you who donated coats and asked for donations!! Thanks to Andrew Todd and Ryan Harmon for delivering the coats.

Remember to say thanks to our friends at the U-Haul on Memorial, they were the individuals who donated our space. Remember to say thanks to our friends at Affordable Signs on Memorial for donating the banner. Many people are warmer inside and out because of YOU! It is evident that YOU CARE - that is what KW MURFREESBORO CARES is all about!
